Disaster Risk Reduction, Response and Recovery

This module is offered by Copenhagen School of Global Health, University of Copenhagen and Lund University Centre for Risk Analysis and Management (LUCRAM) as part of the joint programme Master of Disaster Management.

The module takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark and in Lund, Sweden.

Type:

This is the mandatory core module in the Master of Disaster Management programme. It consists of 4 courses, and can be taken in one go or spread out over a maximum of three years.

Flexibility:

The teaching will typically take place every week from 9:00 to 15:00, with group work on Wednesdays. The module consists of four courses. If you want to study as a part-time student, you don't need to take all four courses in the same year. As long as you start out with the first two courses, you are free to take the two other courses whenever you like, and in any order, as long as it is done within three years. 

Content & Objectives:

Through a holistic and interdisciplinary approach the module will introduce you to the three main processes of disaster management: disaster risk reduction, response and recovery.

1st course:  Introduction and Research Methodologies
4 weeks in Copenhagen, Denmark.

2nd course: Disaster Risk Reduction
4 weeks in Lund, Sweden.

3rd course: Disaster Response
4 weeks in Copenhagen, Denmark.

4th course: Disaster Recovery
3 weeks in Lund, Sweden.

Methods:

A combination of lectures, group work, case studies, report writing, presentations and discussions in plenary. The main emphasis will be on participatory approaches.

Prerequisites:

The applicants must live up to the Master of Disaster Management admission criteria.

Class size:

The number of participants is limited to 40. The course may be cancelled if there are less than 12 participants.

Fees:

Reduced fee: 41,000 DKK 
For students from EU/EEA, and students with a DIS, Fulbright or Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship.

Normal fee: 52,000 DKK 
For all other students.
